Login/password for demo TDS: boss:bossadmin
This is an example on weighted random traffic distribution.
Scenario: We have three offers. We want to send half of our visitors to one offer, one fourth to another offer and another fourth to the third offer. We want to do this absolutely randomly.
We use a scheme named "simple weighted". Open this link in another tab. To see all the scheme properties click on change button in the rightmost column.
In the scheme properties we set IN Url to demo2.
All the traffic sent to http://demotds.bosstds.com/in/demo2/ will be redirected to one of
We set Default OUT Url to http://none.com. In this case this is just a placeholder value, it is never used as our OUTs will catch all the possible traffic.
We set Smart rotate OUTs for non-uniques to Off. Usually it is better to have it set to Weight OUTs Only. When it is Off, the OUT will be chosen randomly. Otherwise BossTDS will try to rotate OUTs when the same visitor, tracked by IP or Cookie, hits the same scheme again.
Rest properties are left with default values.
We've added three OUT Urls. Click on OUT Urls button at the left of change button to see them all. These are our target pages, each page contains an offer:
- The first OUT is http://thesun.co.uk. We set its' Mode to Weight and its' Weight to 1.0.
- The second OUT is http://telegraph.co.uk. We set its' Mode to Weight and its' Weight again to 1.0.
- The third OUT is http://guardian.co.uk. We set its' Mode to Weight and its' Weight again to 2.0.
As you can see, the total weight of all three OUTs is 1.0 + 1.0 + 2.0 = 4.0. 4.0 is 100%, 1.0 is 25% (one fourth) and 2.0 is 50% (one half).
So, exactly as we planned in our scenario, 50% of the hits will be sent to the http://guardian.co.uk, 25% to http://telegraph.co.uk and 25% to http://thesun.co.uk. The OUT will always be choosen randomly from all three OUTs as none of them has any rules and each OUT accepts every hit.
Click a few times on this link (http://demotds.bosstds.com/in/demo2/) and see where and how often you will be redirected to.
